LG Smart Dual Laser Projector Review: Should You Own It?

LG HU810PW 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) Smart Dual Laser CineBeam Projector with 97% DCI-P3 and 2700 ANSI Lumens

Believe it or not, projectors are coming back. There was a time when projectors were only used in offices and schools.

Now, anybody can buy them if they want to have a good cinematic experience. The LG Smart Dual Laser Projector is one of these, and I am sure you are dying to find out more.

In this LG Smart Dual Laser Projector review, I will give you a rundown of what the product is about. I will share its features and some pros and cons.

What is the LG Smart Dual Laser Projector?

The LG Smart Dual Laser Projector is, well, a projector. However, it is not a simple one. It is something that you can use to create a great cinematic experience. This is a good alternative to cinemas because you can project bigger screens in your own home.

If you have an audio system, then you will certainly have a cinema experience, especially so if you have a dedicated home theatre section in your house.

The projector is unique because it offers 4K resolution. What it means is that it can produce high-quality images and videos on your wall, not pixelated ones.

Features of the LG Smart Dual Laser Projector

The LG Smart Dual Laser Projector is one of the most affordable high-powered projectors out in the market today. Let us take a look at its features to help you decide whether it gives you a bang for your buck or not.

Set up and installation

The projector has a long throw distance. What this means is that it has to be far from your screen or wall. You need at least 15 feet between the projector and the wall to get 100 inches of image.

What does this mean? It means that you need a huge space. You can still use it in a small room, but the image quality will not be perfect.

What’s great about the projector is that it has a horizontal and a vertical lens shift. You can use it on a table or mount it to the ceiling. These dual-lens will certainly prevent you from going through the frustrations of aligning the image to your desired screen.

Picture quality

As far as picture quality is concerned, the projector has 8.3 million pixels. It is capable of delivering true 4K resolution. The lens also has an advanced design, and you’d be surprised to find out that it uses no lamps.

Because of the two lenses and no lamps, you can leave the lights on without worrying too much about the picture quality. But of course, all projections are better if the lights are off.

Smart features

What you will love about this projector is that it has smart features. For as long as you are connected to WiFi, you do not need external sources or input devices.

Yes, it has built-in apps. What this means is that it can project the app’s videos right from the projector itself. Upon purchase, you can already access apps like YouTube, Disney+, and even Amazon Prime.

Another smart feature that you will appreciate is the voice assistant. You can connect the projector to either Alexa or Google Assistant. You can use your voice to command it to adjust the volume, switch channels, and play videos.

Gaming features

Can you use this projector for gaming?

Yes, you can, but only for some modern gaming consoles. It does not work like a TV screen. It has a high refresh rate which can deliver smooth gaming action.

However, there is one problem. It has an input lag. If you are a serious gamer, you will notice this lag and will not like it. But for casual gamers, this is just fine. The lag is just a little over 3 milliseconds.

Pros and Cons of the LG Smart Dual Laser Projector Review

To give you a brief summary of the product, let me provide the pros and cons.

Here are the pros:

  • Has true 4K resolution
  • Has a wide range of color resolution
  • Ha web 5.0 interface
  • You can connect it with a voice assistant like Google and Alexa
  • Easy to install; there is even a lens shift and keystone correction
  • You can connect it in two ways via WiFi or Bluetooth

Here are the cons:

  • Has a long throw distance, which means you need a wide space
  • Has serious input lag so it is not ideal for gaming

Despite the cons, I will still say that this is a good buy. After all, the real purpose why you want a projector is to have a home theatre. Gaming, however, is better off if the monitor is a TV that is directly connected to the gaming console.

Why do you need a projector?

Generally speaking, yes you should buy one if you are tired of TV screens. To help you make this decision, I have some points to make here that I want you to think about.

How is the lighting?

If you cannot control that lighting in your room, it does not make sense to buy a projector. Projectors need dark rooms. It is true that there are modern projectors that work well even under lighted areas. However, it does not change the fact that darker rooms produce better image quality.

Do you have space?

Projectors need a large wall for you to operate. These large walls should not have anything on them. On top of that, the projector must be placed far from the wall with nothing to interfere between the light and the wall.

If you do not have space, it is not a good idea to buy a projector at all. If you have space but not a wall, the alternative is to buy a panel. It is a piece of canvass material that has its own stand.

Do you have an A/V receiver?

What is an A/V receiver? It is an important aspect of a home theatre. As you know, projectors do not have a lot of ports. What this means is that you need receivers for the A/V output.

This thing is also called AVR or audio/video receiver. It is the device that receives audio and video signals from the source. From there, it transmits the signals to speakers. They essentially amplify the sound and make it possible to transmit video to the wall.

My take is that you should only buy a projector if you meet these requirements. If not, you will be disappointed. Projectors are best used only in situations where you have a dedicated home theatre system.

Summary: LG Smart Dual Laser Projector Review

Overall, I will say that this is a good buy if you want a home theatre. But that is not the only reason for buying the stuff. You also need this if you have an office or if you are operating a class.

I have to say that television is something that keeps on changing. Time and time again, the price that you pay for a TV will dwindle. Also, new technology will get introduced, and then you will have to buy a new one.

Sometimes, it is better to buy a projector that you can connect to other media devices. This way, you can take the projector with you no matter where you are.
