Anker Nebula Capsule Max Review: Best Device for Backpackers?

No, this is not a medicine or a food supplement. The Anker Nebula Capsule Max is a device that looks like a Bluetooth speaker, but it is more than that.

It is also a projector, which means that you can watch shows from here, and the show will be projected on a wall or a cloth of your choosing.

So, is it something that you should buy? While this product is great for backpackers, I want to find out if it can really deliver its promise.

In this Anker Nebula Capsule Max Review, I will provide you with my inputs on whether or not it is worth the price.

What is the Anker Nebula Capsule Max?

Anker Nebula Capsule Max, Pint-Sized Wi-Fi Mini Projector, 200 ANSI Lumen Portable Projector, Native 720p HD, 8W Speaker, Movie Projector, 100 Inch Picture, 4-Hour Video Playtime, Home Entertainment

The Anker Nebula Capsule Max is a “wherever cinema.” It is a projector that you can connect via WiFi.

Despite that, it looks like a Bluetooth speaker, like a tall can of soft drink.

Somewhere on the cylinder is a lens. The lens is what projects images to your wall. If you have seen projectors in classrooms or offices before, it works the same way.

However, this one is made for your everyday person. It can connect to apps so you can live stream on Netflix or other streaming sites.

One great thing that I like about it is that it has an HDMI port. What this means is that you can connect it to your PC, and then show people what is on your computer monitor without the need for a big TV screen.

As far as the design is concerned, it looks really ordinary. The makers did not bother with the design, so do not expect something that seems to come out of a sci-fi movie.

Instead, the developers put all their efforts into the function, which we will be discussing shortly.

Anker Nebula Capsule Max Review: Product Features

Now, let us take a look at the features of the product. From here, you can decide whether this device merits a space in your collection of gadgets.

1. Projector Lens

This device has a powerful lens. The projector can display images at 200 ANSI lumens. Suffice it to say that it is really bright.

As far as resolution is concerned, it can reach a maximum of 1280 x 720 or 720p.

This is alright. We cannot expect it to do 4K. After all, it is a projector, not an LED screen. The maximum picture size it can project is 100 inches—twice the size of your average give television set.

The projector uses what is called DLP technology. It is a powerful advancement that can produce high contrast and smooth displays.

It is much better than LCD projectors that we all saw back in the early 2010s.

2. Supported Video Formats

Now comes the sweet part: what kind of video formats can you play with it? Well, there are so many, and I can say that you should have no trouble playing many videos.

Do you know what this means? It means that you can plug a USB storage device in the port, and Anker is going to read that file.

In fact, you can even plug your phone and Anker will read the files from your phone.

Now, you may experience a little bit of a problem here. For example, let us say that you downloaded videos from Amazon Prime or Netflix to your phone. Anker is not going to read it.

Why?

Because when you download files from streaming services, they do not really get download as video files. They are downloaded as different kinds of files.

What this means is that only the Amazon Prime App or Netlfix app can play them.

3. Processing Unit

The device has a powerful processor. It uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625. It is an octa-core processor, so it means that it is capable of multi-tasking. Apart from that, you get 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. That is fast enough to play videos.

On the upside, this combination of RAM and processor can also make it easy for the device to connect via Bluetooth or WiFi.

4. Battery Life

This is one of the most important things you need for any device is the battery. On this side of things, the product is a bummer.

It can only deliver 1.5 hours of battery life. It is not even enough to complete one movie!

Here is an alternative: switch the device to low brightness, and you will have 4 hours of battery life. The other alternative is to bring several battery packs with you when you are going to use them.

When at home, just keep it plugged in. If watching outside, you can always use an extension cord.

The last thing I want to talk about is the software. It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo. The device has its own user interface called Nebula UI.

As such, you can use the controls at the top of the device even if you do not have a touchscreen.

And oh, it does have a remote that you can use, too.

The device has no Google Play Store in it. So, to be able to get apps, you have to use the Nebula Store. Do not worry, there are many things that you can find here.

You can download the Netflix app or if you want, download the Amazon Prime Video app.

Take note that you cannot use the Netflix or Amazon app from a phone. What I mean is that you cannot connect your smartphone and access the app from there.

It does not work that way. You still have to download the video streaming app from the Nebula Store.

For phones, the Nebula projector can only play video files from your phone, in the same way, it accesses files from your PC or USB storage drive.

Is the Anker Nebula Capsule Max Worth it?

I would say that yes, it is worth it. Take note that the price may change from one seller to another. The biggest reason for me to buy this is portability.

It fits in any bag. As such, you can take it anywhere with you. You can connect it to your PC and share what is on your screen.

Another option is to connect it with WiFi and then stream from there.

I can say that I can find a lot of practical uses for this device, and it is something that I recommend to people who are always with their friends or family.

Summary: Anker Nebula Capsule Max Review

Overall, I love this product. It is an innovative way to get entertained no matter where you are. While it is marketed towards backpackers, it does have a use for everybody.

For example, you can use this as an alternative to watching in your house. If you want to stay outside, you can use your wall to watch, so you do not have to move the television anymore.

You can also use this for teaching a class—you can take it in the classroom and show videos if your classroom has no TV.

Pretty much, it is an all-around video projector that has many practical uses.
