Amazon Echo Show 8 Review: A Reasonably Priced Tablet High-Performing Tablet Speaker?

But what’s more important is what it can do. What are the components inside? Is it worth your money or should you just buy another brand?

Let us find that out together today. In this Amazon Echo Show 8 review, we should be able to decide if we should put our money on this 8-inch tablet.

What is the Amazon Echo Show 8?

The Amazon Echo Show 8 is a speaker. It is one of the Amazon Echo series, but this one looks like a tablet. Unlike its predecessors, it has improved audio quality, and it has a touch screen that you can use.

It is not a full-featured tablet even if it looks like one. Rather, it is a great supplement for your Echo device. It is a great addition to your living room, and then you can move your other Echo products in your room.

If you are an Amazon account holder, one of the things you will love about the tablet/speaker is that it has an isolated set-up. All you have to do is to start it up, log in to your Amazon account, and the set-up process is complete.

There is no need to sync up your phone or anything like that.

As a tablet speaker, this works perfectly in the Amazon Universe. It recognizes Alexa, and it does have microphones that can hear your command.

This is unique because the tablet is made with high priority for voice commands.

Amazon Echo Show 8 Design

While it looks like a tablet, it is not one. Behind the touch screen is a bulky speaker, and this is how the tablet speaker stands on its own.

By design, it is like the twin of the Echo Show 5. It has a camera and a camera shutter, and the screen boasts of 1280 x 800 pixels in terms of resolution.

This resolution is commonly used in 10-inch devices, which means that the tablet speaker provides a better image quality.

It has an angled display, and the speaker is wrapped in fabric. The power port is located at the back. You need to keep it plugged in if you want it to work.

There is also a micro-USB port at the back, along with a 35 mm jack where you can connect your wired headphones.

Amazon Echo Show 8 Features

Now, for the exciting part, let us talk about the features.

Screen – the screen is not just there for display. It works like a tablet. You can swipe the screen and it is going to work. it has no button, but it is highly responsive.

What I really like about it is that it shows a sharp image even if you are viewing it from an angle.

One thing that you will love is its adaptive brightness. What this means is that it has the capability to adjust the brightness based on the environment.

You can also adjust the brightness according to your preference.

Sound and Video – the camera at the front is only 1 MP. This is pretty much useless if you ask me. The back camera is 5MP, which is again not good.

The thing is that you do not buy this device for taking pictures.

The camera is just a great addition because you can use the tablet speaker for video calls. However, you are going to be disappointed if you want to use it for taking selfies.

Despite that, the quality of the images on the screen is superb. It is great if you are watching movies, even if your Echo is not connected to the television.

For the speaker, it has a pair of 2-inch speakers. Not a lot, but it does have a bass, albeit passive. Even so, it can get loud, too. It is not as good as the 1-inch version, but it will certainly do.

It still works great if you want to use it to fill your room with music.

The great thing about the speakers is that you can adjust the settings. The device has an equalizer so you can tinker with it and use the settings that please your ears.

Smart Home – Alexa can do a lot of things to run your home’s internet of things. So, if you have already used other Echo products before, this feature is not going to be new to you.

What you have to know is that Alexa has limited skills depending on which region it is being used.

If you are from Australia, you will be disappointed that not a lot of voice-access functionalities in the US and UK are available. It is easy to set up Philips Hue Lights, but you will not be able to set up other things like Nanoleaf Canvas.

There is no YouTube app on the device. If you want to access YouTube, you have to use the Amazon Silk Browser.

Essentially, you will launch a browser and access YouTube from it.

As far as streaming is concerned, you can do direct streaming with Amazon. If you want, you can also link Spotify and listen to your playlist from there.

Another thing you can do is to use Apple Music to launch your music, provide that you have an account.

The tablet speaker has Bluetooth. What does it do? You can pair your phone, play music from your phone, and then use the speaker of the Amazon Echo Show 8 as your output device.

Summary: Amazon Echo Show 8 Review

I like the Amazon Echo Show 8. I have to say that it is worth the money. This, of course, applies if you are ana Amazon user.

If you have already worked out your home with Google Home, it really does not make sense to buy one, unless if you have Amazon Prime so you can easily access your videos.

Overall, this one is perfect to stand on just below your TV in the living room. It is not too big, and it is not too small either.

It will fit in any space. For its price, it packs a punch, and you will love how crisp the resolution is. I just don’t like that it does not have YouTube support.

Overall, this is great if you have been using Alexa as your assistant, or if you want to have a standby tablet when you call people.
