Alexa-Enabled Roav VIVA Pro Car Charger Review: is it a good car assistant?

There was a time when people in movies talked in their car. At that time, the idea seemed far-fetched. Today, it is a reality thanks to the Alexa-enabled Roav VIVA Pro Car Charger.

In this Alexa Enabled Roav VIVA Pro Car Charger review, I will tell you whether or not it is a good car charger. By the end of my review, you should be able to decide if it is worth our money or not, and you will also know what you can expect from this product.

What is the Alexa Enabled Roav VIVA Pro Car Charger?

The Alexa Enabled Roav VIVA Pro Car Charger is an assistant that you can plug in your car. Today, there are no cars that have automated assistants. You still have to bring your phone with you and talk on your phone.

This is a problem because a phone is clunky, and the last thing you want is to hold on to it while you are driving. This is where the Alexa Enabled Roav VIVA Pro Car Charger comes in.Roav VIVA Pro, by Anker, Alexa-Enabled 2-Port USB Car Charger for Navigation and Music Streaming, For Cars with Bluetooth/CarPlay/Android Auto/Aux-In/FM Reception

It is a device that you mount on your car, and you can talk to Alexa through it. Alexa is Amazon’s assistant—she is the robot behind the Amazon Echo speaker and controller system that people use in smart home appliances.

The Alexa-Enabled Roav VIVA Pro Car Charger is something that you plug in your 12V socket that is meant for cigarette lighters. It draws power from that socket, and it is connected to Alexa.

Here are some of the things you can do with it:

  • Ask for direction and show the map on your phone
  • Make it stream music while you are driving—no need to touch it
  • Take calls hands-free from your car
  • Make Alexa do some research
  • You can charge your phone with it

The product is easy to set up. All you have to do is to plug it in. Obviously, you must have an Amazon account to be able to integrate Alexa to it. You also have to download the app from Google Play or the App Store. So, if your phone is not Android or iOS, you cannot use this.

Once you have completed these steps, log in to your Amazon account and then pair it with your car radio. You can pair it via Bluetooth. If your car stereo has no Bluetooth, you can still pair it with a 35mm wire cable or through the use of the FM tuner.

Features of the Alexa-Enabled Roav VIVA Pro Car Charger

Now, let us talk about the features of the product. This is important, as it is the features that really work as the deal maker or deal-breaker as far as purchasing gadgets are concerned.

Multiple ways to connect – I mentioned this in passing earlier, but I want to put emphasis on it. The only method to connect it to your car’s power source is through the 12-v power slot. However, there are three ways by which you could connect it to your radio—via the FM tuner, Bluetooth, or wire.

2 USB slots – there are two USB slots on the device. Use these slots to charge your devices. This is great if your car has a cigarette lighter slot but not a USB port. In cars with no USB ports, you cannot charge your phone unless you buy an adapter. With this device, you no longer need an adapter.

Voice identification – this device knows who is issuing the orders. It knows if the command came from the passenger or the driver. It could even hear you even if there is music streaming. What I like about it is that it has an indicator if it is listening. There is a blue LED ring light that shines if it is listening to your voice. This way, you know if it is paying attention to you or not.

Mic on and off – there is a large button at the top of the gadget. You can press this to turn the microphone on and off. This is great of the car is full of passengers and you do not want Alexa to get confused. The LED ring turns red if you turn off the mic.

Taking directions – Alexa is great not just at listening but also in giving directions. If you ask Alexa to tell you how to go to a place, she will give you turn-by-turn directions. Again, you have to integrate the device or Alexa with either Google Maps or Waze. Alexa merely tells you what to do based on the instructions from these apps.

These features are enough for now—they are great for a basic assistant inside your car. The only thing that is missing is glass. If the developer can add glass, then it certainly is going to be really worth more than what you paid for it.

Cons of the Alexa-Enabled Roav VIVA Pro Car Charger

Now, let us talk a little bit about the things that I do not like about this.

  • No Spotify – people love Spotify. The sad thing is that if you are a Spotify user, you cannot integrate the device with the app. The alternative to this problem is for you to use another music app, like Amazon, or simply connect it to the car’s stereo system.
  • Compatibility issues – I cannot name all the cars where this device will not work. Some examples are Acura ILX 2017, Nissan Sentra, Kia Soul 2016, Altima cars between 2015 and 2017, and others. What I advise you to do is to go to Amazon and check if your car is one that s not compatible.
  • Uses large data – Alexa is a data hogger. Steaming music on this device eats up a lot of data from your phone or sim card.

Apart from these three, I really have no other gripes. Before you buy it, I cannot strongly emphasize enough to check if your car is compatible. Even if you can ask for a refund, you really do not want to go through that hassle.

Summary: Alexa-Enabled Roav VIVA Pro Car Charger Review

Is it worth the money?

Yes, I would say so. This device is a critical partner when driving. It does not only serve as your co-pilot but also as a companion. Because it is powered by Alexa, you could expect it to do everything that Alexa could.

It listens to your commands, can sync with your radio, and can also integrate with your phone. Overall, I can say that this product is worth having, especially because the price is really affordable.
